For Design Systems, I was to come up with a physical pop-up. I worked with Kelsey Ragain to create a pop-up that centered around the concept of "apophany."
The original name for our pop-up was "wtf is creativity." Our ideas for "wtf is creativity" mainly revolved around the topic of unlearning. We wanted to emphasize that everyone is creative and that we, as humans, often hinder our ability to learn because we think we know everything already. We held onto this direction for awhile until we realized that what we truly wanted to do strayed from these intentions. Through a seemingly endless amount of research about creativity, "apophany" was born. Instead of emphasizing everyone’s ability to be creative, we hoped to encourage the speculation of creativity- as it looks different for everyone. We hoped to offer a place to make connections, because at its core, that is exactly what creativity is. We created an intimate space for people to make ink-blots and offer their thoughts on what, if anything, it was that they saw within those folded sheets of paper. The responses were amusing to say the least, and our pop-up was a hit.
